The earlier prediction that more cases of PML would be identified in association with
natalizumab treatment has been realized, and we have no clear idea how many cases are
on the horizon or how to anticipate which patients will be at greatest risk. Eugene Major
writes that knowing that a patient has elevated levels of CD34+ cells, viremia, or both could
be informative for the evaluation of continued or future treatment.
