Previous studies showed that Staphylococcus aureus expresses a collagen-binding
MSCRAMM (Microbial Surface Component Recognizing Adhesive Matrix Molecules), CNA,
that is necessary and sufficient for S. aureus cells to adhere to cartilage and is a virulence
